Using a unique manufacturing process Holbein has developed an exceptional range of 144 artist quality soft pastels, which offer soft powder richness in covering and blending power.
Holbein’s manufacturing process is entirely computerized and is mechanized from inception to final product. In the final stages of production a computer lens scans every stick in order to guarantee uniform distribution of pigment and pigment purity.
The sticks are made in a square shape for working versatility - use the corners for fine lines and the flat side to lay down swathes of color. These pastels are sought after for their consistent softness, pigment purity, and size.
Each stick measures 2" long x 1/2" square and comes sleeved in a plastic case.
FLAX art & design is a genuine Oakland institution. Opening their first store in 1938, they're now on their 3rd generation of family ownership and have recently relocated to a beautiful new Downtown location that could best be described as a "toy store for artists." 80 years in and they're still putting art and community front and center. You can visit them at their own site here, or find more of their products right here on Keep Oakland Alive.
