Artists' Picture Cleaner dissolves linseed oil oxidation and cleans soiled oil paintings by removing surface dirt and the damaging products of oxidation. It is a specially formulated natural resin/oil emulsion containing ammonia and designed for cleaning varnished paintings.
When using this cleaner, it is important to shake before and during use. Clean small areas with cotton wool pads and when cleaning is complete, remove any remaining cleaner with distilled turpentine.
Please note, however, that a picture needing to have old varnish removed should be entrusted to a competent picture restorer. Unvarnished paintings may also be treated with Artists' Picture Cleaner but great care is necessary and the process should be stopped immediately if any color appears to be coming off the painting.
